The Weeknd performed the first of four shows in Toronto this past Sunday night and it was everything you would think it would be! I’ve seen a bunch of different TikTok videos of his shows in other cities, and saw the incredible pyro spectacle, so one of the maing things on my mind walking into the Rogers Centre was “I really hope the roof is open.” Sure enough, coming down to our seats you could see the CN Tower in all its glory and all the different buildings around the Rogers Centre, who essentially got to witness a free show that night from their balconies.
The show was incredible, the production quality was amazing, and Abel’s vocals were basically studio quality. The transitions from song to song were flawless and unique, played specifically for the live performances. Once you start listening to song after song you really start to realize what a massive catalogue he has of just pure hits.
He performed all of the top hits like “Often”, “The Hills”, “Starboy”, “Creepin”, “High For This”, etc. etc. Like I said his catalogue of hits is absolutely massive! It must be a crazy feeling to perform 4 shows to sold-out crowds in the same exact city that you grew up in, and while he is obviously from Scarborough, he stopped for a moment to reminisce with fans about how he used to come to the Rogers Centre and watch the Blue Jays play, and how much of a surreal feeling it was to now be performing in that same exact venue. Rogers Centre also used to be called SkyDome, and both us and him are fully down to bring that iconic name back!
Enjoy the pictures below (credits to Hyghly Alleyne) and enjoy our TikTok videos below that, you’ll really get a sense of how packed and amazing this first night show was! And if you missed out on the first two nights, you still have a chance to see this incredible show on August 7th and 8th for the final two nights in Toronto at the Rogers Centre!
